Rauf and Rizwan are back in action for Pakistan's upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, as the team gears up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The Pakistan Men’s National Selection Committee unveiled the T20I squad during a press briefing in Lahore, announcing a challenging series ahead starting on May 10 with three matches against Ireland.
Haris Rauf, recovering from a shoulder injury sustained during the PSL, returns to the squad, along with Hasan Ali, adding depth to Pakistan's bowling attack. Notable inclusions also feature Salman Ali Agha, who secures a spot after being in the reserves during the recent home series.
However, Azam Khan, sidelined due to a leg injury, and Mohammad Rizwan, recovering from a hamstring injury, faced setbacks in the last series against New Zealand. Nevertheless, Babar Azam is set to lead the team after his reinstatement as white-ball captain.
The squad emphasizes a strong batting lineup with Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, and Usman Khan, supported by versatile all-rounders and a formidable pace and spin attack.
While crafting the squad posed challenges due to the abundance of talent, the committee believes the final selection balances experience and skill. Despite the disappointment for players like Usama Mir and Zaman Khan, they are encouraged to focus on their cricket for future opportunities.
The series kicks off with the Ireland tour, featuring matches on May 10, 12, and 14 in Dublin, followed by the England series with games scheduled on May 22, 25, 28, and 30 across Leeds, Birmingham, and Cardiff.
